Venue: Casa del Mar

A couple of weeks ago, I had a styled photo shoot at a beautiful venue called Masía Casa del Mar. It’s located between the coastal town of Sitges and Vilanova i La Geltrú, a slightly larger city. This venue is for those couples who really want to be close to the sea and enjoy Mediterranean sea views.

History

Casa del Mar’s origins dates all the way back to the 14th century when it was built as a rural farmhouse. Later, thanks to it’s characteristics, it became the summer residence of king Alfonso XVIII of Spain. Since then, the finca has been reformed first in 2015 and later in 2018 when new celebration spaces were added.

What they offer

The property is a luxury modern, finca, with that nice Mediterranean vibe. They offer outdoor- and indoor spaces suitable any type of event. It’s possible to rent the entire property if you want, they have 6 suites in total.

Wedding ceremony

The main ceremony area is located downhill from the main terrace, and is overlooking the beautiful sea and nature around it. There are quite a few steps down to the area where the arch is, but with a helping hand the bride will have no problem. You will be able to have rows of chairs for the guests from two directions facing the arch. You could also have the ceremony next to the pool area which also has great views, but most couples choose the main ceremony area for it’s beauty.

This is the backdrop for your wedding ceremony. In this photo you don’t see the ocean as blue, due to we had a cloudy day, but imagine this with sunshine, and the ocean is turquoise blue.

The ceremony area has a fixed arched that can be used for the ceremony.

Cocktail area

The cocktail area is usually by the pool area, and is an amazing spot for guests to mingle and enjoy nice, mediterranean food with the panoramic sea view. This area is called “El Aire” and is a large area that can take up to 230 guests in standing up cocktail, or if you prefer to have the dinner here it’s also possible, in that case the max capacity would be 140 seated guests.

Dinner

Plan A: Close to the pool area, there is an open al fresco dining area where you can continue enjoying the nice, outdoor atmosphere. It’s called “Espacio Mar” (to the right in the above photo), and even if the sea view isn’t as directly on as from the cocktail area, you still can see it depending on which angle you are seated. It’s also possible to add a marquee here, which is nice in case there would be a heat wave in summer, or if the weather is unpredictable. This area has a total capacity of 220 seated guests.

Plan B: The venue offers a large, elegant indoor marquee with glass walls just next to the main building. The ceiling is covered with elegant, gray fabric. This space is known as “El Cel”, or “La Carpa”. It’s a modern space and the newest addition to the property. This area does not have sea views and has a maximum capacity of 350 seated guests.

The party

Depending on if you are having a day time wedding, or an afternoon/evening wedding, you have two options. For daytime weddings you can have the DJ stand or live band on the patio area of the house, which is just next to the pool area. The building has an U shape there creating a patio with open views towards the pool.

In case of an evening wedding, there are noice restrictions from 11PM (23:00), but they have a sound proof nightclub. It comes with an outdoor lounge area and is located on the bottom floor of the main building.

The Location

Masia Casa del Mar is located in the village Les Roquetes del Garraf, with breathtaking views over the Mediterranean. The village is located between Sitges town (15 min drive) and the city of Vilanova i La Geltrú (10 min drive). If you are wondering which city is the best when it comes to guest accommodation, I would highly recommend Sitges. Barcelona is a 45 min drive away.

You can also park your rental car in Sitges or Vilanova i Vilanova i La Geltrú if you don’t like the idea of driving in Barcelona center. There are direct trains to Barcelona from both cities. I recommend you get off on Passeig de Gracia (Eixample district), or Estació de França (old town, El Born neighborhood). Barcelona airport is located 30 min drive from the property.

Kitchen

The house has a kitchen for guests who are spending the night. For weddings and events catering is required.

What to see/do

If you are not staying at a hotel in Sitges, I still highly recommend that you visit this beautiful village. It’s very cozy to stroll around on it’s narrow streets, and it has beautiful beaches too. My favorite beach is Playa de San Sebastián. A day trip to Barcelona is of course also a fun, or a half day excursion to a lovely vineyard in Penedés which is only 30 min drive away.
