Venue: Xalet del Nin

Wedding venue Barcelona, Wedding venue Sitges, Wedding venue Vilanova i la geltru, Xalet del Nin, seaside venue, sea views venue

Hello lovely humans. I have decided to start a venue series here on the blog. That means that I will be presenting new wedding venues from the Barcelona region to you every now and then. I hope you like the idea.

First out, Xalet del Nin. I was visiting this place earlier today, it’s been on my “to visit” list for a while. I was really looking forward to finally seeing it. It’s a fairly new wedding venue, they have been operating since 2018 but have since then celebrated many weddings. It has turned into one of the top option in the area and it’s easy to understand why.

History

The finca was designed by the Catalan architect Fonts i Gumá back in 1913. It’s a beautiful example of Barcelona’s Art Nouveau movement. It’s constructed on top of a XVIII century fortress. However, the history stretches back 2500 years to the Iberian legacy. There are archeological ruins of the town at the base of the hill that are open to visitors. The area also has deep roots to the Penedés wine region which is located only a 30 min drive inlands. It was once the residence of the son of Barcelona’s major,

What they offer

They offer many, versatile event spaces, and also accommodation. It’s a perfect place for couples who wish to spend time with family and friends before or after the wedding. It is possible to rent the entire property. You will be able to enjoy the large garden, the pool area and BBQ area. Let’s not forget about the epic sea views and modern en-suite bedrooms. Possibility to contract private chef for your stay. In the future, there will also be a spa.

Wedding ceremony

Plan A: The ceremony can be held in the gardens with views over the “balcony” that overlooks the sea. A beautiful space that for sure will impress your guests. There is an area just next to the ceremony space that offers a bit of shade and where guest can enjoy a welcome drink before the ceremony starts. The large gardens also offers other areas where you could have the ceremony. Your options will depend on the amount of guests you have.

Plan B. In case of bad weather, it’s possible to have the ceremony indoors. The indoor space is nice, open space with high ceilings. It’s called the Xalet room, and also offers sea views. It’s the same space where you would normally have the DJ and party.

Cocktail area

The cocktail is usually held in El patio de los olivos. It’s a really nice area on the other side of the house with large, potted olive trees. It’s an open air space that offers sea views, and is perfect for cocktails. The guests can walk around and explore the garden while enjoying the food and drinks. There is a door with stairs from where the bride and groom can make their entrance to the cocktail area. It’s worth mentioning, that you could also opt for a seated dinner in this area, but you would then have to bring in extra lights.

Dinner

The dinner can be celebrated in the the beautiful, glassed outdoor space named Umbracle. It is located next to the main ceremony space. With it’s organic, and irregular shape it allows for different kind of set ups. It has plenty of daylight and works equally well as a Plan A or Plan B. Some parts of this space offer sea views too. During summer, the glass walls can be opened and folded to the side so that you have the feeling of sitting outdoors. This is a really nice, and elegant space which I totally recommend. However, as mentioned above, you, could have the dinner al fresco in the Patio de los Olivos too if you rather prefer that.

For pictures, I would highly recommend that you visit their website where you can explore more.

The location

Xalet del Nin is located just by the beach, upon a hill top in the city of Vilanova i La Geltrú. It’s a small-ish sized city in Spanish measures with 67 000 inhabitants on the Garraf coast about 1 hour south from Barcelona, 20 min from Sitges and 35 min drive from Bacelona International Airport. You also find the city of Tarragona on 45 min driving distance.

The property is located between two beaches, Platja de Sant Gervasi and Platja S’Adarro. It’s a calm, residencial area. The beach boulevard is just below the finca. The walking distance to the main shopping street Rambla Principal is about 1,6 km but, you will find restaurants before that too.

What to see/do

Visiting Sitges and Barcelona is a piece of cake. Vilanova has direct train connections to all the main train stations in Barcelona city center; Sants Estació, Passeig de Gracia and Estació de França. All trains stop in Sitges too, which is just a 5 min train ride away. While Vilanova also has some cute, older areas to explore, Sitges has a more cozy and “balearic” feeling that reminds of Ibiza.

Penedés wine region is a short drive away and offers many vineyards where you are able to take a guided tour, tastings or other wine activities. The grapes are harvested in September. Many bodegas will offer harvest activities where you will be able to help to pick and press the grapes by foot like in the old days, and bottle your own wine. This is a really fun group activity. The area is also famous for it’s cava, which is the sparkling wine that is originally from this area. The city of Tarragona also has interesting tourist attractions thanks to the strong roman heritage, for example the roman amphitheatre. A private boat cruise would also be a very nice option for the summer months.

This is a venue for those couples who would love to get married close to the sea, and would love to enjoy time with friends and family before- or after the wedding.
